Our Approach

What ABA Therapy Looks Like at Our Los Angeles Center

What ABA Therapy Looks Like at Our Los Angeles Center

At our Los Angeles center on Wilshire Boulevard, every child receives a personalized ABA program designed by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and delivered by a dedicated team of trained interventionists. We serve children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder throughout the LA metro — in our center, at home, and in the community.

Sessions at our Wilshire Boulevard location combine structured skill-building with naturalistic learning, so progress in the therapy room carries over into daily life. All programs begin with a comprehensive assessment — including the option for an ADOS-2 diagnostic evaluation — to make sure your child's goals and learning style drive every decision we make.

Built on 45 Years of ABA Experience

Intercare has been family-run and family-focused since 1979. That means the people who built this organization raised children of their own — and that perspective shapes how we support every family who comes through our doors, whether in Los Angeles or anywhere we serve.

Insurance for LA Metro Families

Insurance for LA Metro Families

Intercare is in-network with most major commercial and behavioral health plans serving Los Angeles. California's behavioral health treatment mandate (SB 946) requires most commercial insurance plans to cover ABA therapy — so if you have private insurance, there's a good chance we accept it.

If your plan isn't listed, call us — we can usually verify coverage within 1–2 business days. California's behavioral health treatment mandate (SB 946) requires most state-regulated health plans to cover ABA therapy for children with autism, but specifics — copays, prior authorization rules, session limits — vary widely. Our intake team handles the verification and authorization paperwork directly.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How old does my child need to be to start ABA therapy in Los Angeles?

We accept referrals from 18 months through age 18. Early intervention — typically before age six — has the strongest evidence base, but ABA is effective across childhood and adolescence.

How many hours of ABA per week does my child need?

That depends on the BCBA's assessment. Comprehensive programs for young children often run 25–40 hours per week. Focused programs for older kids working on specific goals can run as few as 10–15 hours per week. The treatment plan you review in week four will spell this out.

Is ABA therapy covered by insurance in California?

For most children with an autism diagnosis, yes. California's SB 946 requires state-regulated commercial plans to cover behavioral health treatment for autism. Self-funded employer plans, Medicare, and Tricare have separate rules. Our intake team verifies coverage at no cost before therapy begins.

Can my child get ABA at home and at school?

Yes. Many of our Los Angeles families combine in-home ABA with classroom support. Intercare holds a direct service contract with LAUSD and our BCBAs can also attend IEP meetings and conduct classroom observations at independent and charter schools throughout the LA metro.
